Where this comes from.

Before advising, I built and ran technology at IBM and Paramount for millions of users. Two of those projects, and what they produced.

Re-platforming Noggin at Paramount

Context: As VP of Engineering at Paramount, I led the re-platforming of Noggin's native mobile apps, the learning service for preschoolers.
Problem: A legacy architecture limited how fast the product could ship and how well it delivered content.
What we did: Moved to a cloud-native, API-first architecture on AWS with Docker and GitHub Actions, and rebuilt the delivery pipeline around it.
Result: A better experience for more than 1.3 million children in the US, and the 2024 Kidscreen Award for Best Learning App.

Cloud migration of a B2B platform at IBM

Context: As an Engineering Manager at IBM, I owned the integrations behind IBM's hardware field services.
Problem: An on-premises monolith that was expensive to run and hard to change.
What we did: Migrated the system to IBM Cloud, breaking the monolith into Spring Boot microservices with proper observability.
Result: Infrastructure cost down 57%, with a platform that could scale and integrate with third parties without a rewrite.

Neither of these was a technology problem alone. Both were decisions about what to keep, what to replace, whom to hire, and how to explain the bet to people who were not engineers. That is the work I now do for organizations that cannot yet carry a full-time CTO.
